Modern Day Evolution

Evolution is a process that is always happening around whether or not we see it. In today's world, there are many hunters and fishers who do these things as a job or a hobby. Unfortunately, however, one of these species, the African Elephant, is dying out because of poaching. The Elephants are hunted for their tusks in particular. Over the course of the last 150 years or so, the Elephants are starting to have shorter tusks. This occurred because the targeted Elephants had the larger tusks and when they were killed, it was the smaller tusked ones that remained. The females had no choice but to mate with them(they prefer the larger tusked males) thus giving their offspring shorter tusks.

Not too long ago, during the Industrial revolution, a species known as the Peppered Moth underwent some major transformations. With the industry booming, there was a lot of gas or smoke coming out of factories. This smoke would cover up trees turning them dark. These trees were the homes of the Peppered Moth. It had a color very similar to the tree for camouflage purposes. Due to the smoke changing the trees dark, the camouflage was rendered useless. Over time, the Moth became darker to coincide with the darker trees. No one knows whether or not the Moths will ever become light colored again.

One last example includes the human race, us. Many people this day in age are born without an appendix. This organ is used to help digest raw meat, which no one really eats nowadays.
